Guildford Chess Club

All players welcome – from beginners to Grandmasters!

We aim to provide a safe and secure inclusive environment for all chess players to both play and learn about chess.

We are one of the strongest chess clubs in the UK, with approximately 40 regular players in membership spanning the complete ability range from beginner to Grandmaster.
We field over a dozen teams in two local leagues (the Surrey League and the Border League). We also have three teams in the 4NCL national league. Guildford were placed first in the first division of the 4NCL last season. Some of our players also play for Surrey County teams. We have also represented England in the European Club Cup, and some of the current members have won Junior European titles as well as completing successfully (and socially) in the World Senior Chess championships representing England.

Our regular club night is on a Monday night from September through to July at the Guildford Institute on North Street, and we aim to provide an environment and culture where people help others develop their chess. Volunteering to assist in some way within the club is important.
